In our world of digital communication and instant gratification, receiving a letter in the mail evokes a special feeling of anticipation; what will I receive today? A letter from a long lost friend, a note just to say thanks, or perhaps a simple something special. As your guests thumb through the bills, flyers, and junk mail, one envelope stands out from the rest - the invitation announcing your signature event. When written by the skilled hand of a professional penman in an Copperplate, Spenserian or italic script, your invitation becomes mort than a mere piece of mail, it becomes the announcement setting the tone of your event.
A place card is placed on the ballroom table to indicate what place setting a guest is assigned. An escort card is placed outside the ballroom indicating what table a guest at an event, such as a wedding or banquet, is assigned to sit. Escort cards generally have the guest's name and table number, and frequently have some design as well to add style. Place cards usually only have the guests name written on it.
Not often do you get to start a wedding trend. The luxury wedding calligrapher Carla Hagan has created quite a stir introducing elegant and unique escort cards, place cards, table numbers, and invitations using exclusive agate slices from Rab Labs New York. Edged in 24k gold with gold leaf calligraphy by Carla Hagan, these agates are in high demand.
Hello, my name is Carla Hagan and I would like to welcome you to my site. For the past 10 years, I have been a professional calligrapher specializing in wedding calligraphy for invitations, envelopes, place cards, Programs, menus, and seating charts. I also perform custom commissioned work for bar-mitzvahs, galas, and charity events. As a child I can remember watching my grandmother carefully write out elegant letters long before email and the internet, when handwritten correspondence was commonplace. We lived in different parts of the country, and my grandmother and I would often communicate through letters. I fondly remember waiting in anticipation for a letter from her, and always being impressed with the quality of her handwriting. On my 10th birthday, my grandmother gave me my first calligraphy kit, and I fell in love with the written word. Ever since, I have taken advantage of this unique skill whenever possible, whether it’s writing out invitations, or doing special projects for friends and family. In 1995, I turned my hobby into a business, and my client base has steadily grown. I am proud to be a member of the South Florida Calligraphy Guild and the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH). As I attend annual conferences and workshops amongst my enlightened peers, I am honored to learn and grow in the inspiring shadows of the Masters. I have been working with brides and event planners for the past 10 years and have an excellent understanding of wedding traditions and etiquette. I can help you with designing your invitations, explain the pros and cons of seating charts, place cards, and escort cards, and maybe even offer a few suggestions to add special touches to your event that you haven't yet considered. My studio is located at the Social House in Lake Worth, Florida, though I enjoy serving clients nationwide.
